What does Resident Involvement and Empowerment realy mean?
There are various definitions of ivolvement, but today involvement really
includes:
- all of the activities and processes that a housing organisation uses
to help it to know what it's residents and communities want
- all of the different ways people can get inovolved, if they want to,
- giving and receiving information, being consulted, influencing
decisions and joint / devolved decision making
- The systems providers have in place to ensure accountablitiy to
their tenants and communities.
What is empowerment? Here is one defintion . . .
'Empowerment is when people feel they can influence the decisions
that impact on their lives and are provided with meaningful opportunities to
make this an actuality not a mere possibility'
