Local Steering Groups
At the moment there are eight Berneslai Homes Housing Management Teams which work
closely with the local steering groups. These steering groups are
made up of local councillors, Berneslai Homes impact team members, tenants' representatives, other
service providers such as the police, and representatives from other
local organisations.
They meet at regular intervals and the role of the Housing Management Team is to set
priorities and monitor performance.
- The Housing Management Team Leader should manage all meetings, with support
from impact officers where necessary (for example, to take minutes).
Before the meeting, members of the team should receive the minutes
of the last meeting, an agenda for the next meeting and an
invitation to that meeting
- They will give out any other documents and information at this
point or during the meeting.
Steering Groups should do the following:
- Be led by the community and encourage customers to tell
Berneslai Homes about the standards of their performance in their
area
- Help Berneslai Homes to improve their performance if necessary
- Be flexible, open to everyone, and be guided by local needs or
preferences (for example, holding meetings at various places if
working over a wide area, or holding meeting early in the evening for
those with other commitments)
- Include people from groups who are under represented
- Be focused enough to effectively tackle
important issues and decide priorities, but also be flexible enough
to deal with the 'unexpected'
- Have input into new ideas and policies before they are put into
action
- Give the Impact Team an opportunity to provide information on
their performance and report on their activities or issues
identified during the previous months
- Identify environmental improvements that can be made on housing
land and put forward suggestions to make them happen.
All Steering Group meeting should aim to achieve the best possible
outcome for the whole community.
