Community Safety

Message from the Chair of the Barnsley and Tenants Federation who has the role of Community Safety within the Federation.

Barry McGowan is very concerned about people calling unexpected knocking on peoples doors, especially the elderly and vulnerable. A long time ago people could go out and leave their doors unlocked and people trusted others but how times have changed. There are now some unscrupulous characters who prey on our elderly and vulnerable tenants and residents all over the borough that’s why I am raising my concerns.

I would appeal to anyone who has vulnerable relatives and neighbours to keep an eye on them to try and avoid anybody saying they are from the utilities such as water and gas etc, keep their door chains on and don’t open the door to anyone unless they are expected, as the saying goes no appointment not known no entry. I know it hard to educate elderly people but it is imperitive we all work together to look after them.
